In this project for campus-development and transformation, CULD and Inbo designed a learning, working and meeting community for the Breda University of Applies Sciences.
Two existing campus buildings and a former abbey were renovated and integrated to create an inspiring learning environment. The former abbey courtyards were covered and turned into transparent, multipurpose educational ‘village squares’.
The exterior of the campus came together by moving all the parking and car traffic out of the area between the buildings. A campus park in a wavy poetic pattern connects important campus nodes in a fluid manner. New meetings points are created by connecting the park to the buildings. Two central axes emphasize the formal campus feeling, while the park creates a relaxed atmosphere. Students, employees and inhabitants meet in the park, on the sports field or in the education square and new restaurant, run by students.
