The Kaohsiung port needs a new iconic and key feature passenger terminal, for ferry and cruise uses. The building will have to contribute to the image and reputation of Kaohsiung as a tourist destination. CULD proposed to make a natural, mountain-like structure on the quayside. From the water, this structure will appear as a modern building that welcomes passengers to the city. From the city perspective, a new mountain is added to the skyline with a natural walking route embedded. Inside the terminal, the ‘’hollow mountain’’ concept leads to a spectacular void overlooking the water and port.
